Tamlyn & Keshav's Wedding Reception
Theme: Beauty and the Beast
We had decided on a wedding reception that was separate and a day after the wedding ceremony to respect the traditions of our religion by not serving meat or alcohol. We both have families who love to dance and party, therefore we saw it necessary to have a wedding reception. I however saw it as opportunity to have a Disney themed Beauty and the Beast event. I had been completely obsessed with the movie and love story behind Beauty and the Beast. I’ve always believed that love is about so much more than physical appearances, it’s about sacrifices, compromises and loyalty. I chose a beautiful gold lehenga that was especially brought from India for me by the amazing owner of Shringar in Lenasia. Its yellow gold tones and full skirt reminded me of Belle’s yellow ball gown from the movie. My husband wore a custom made, navy blue tuxedo similar to that of Beast. I had made decals for the bottom of our shoes which labelled our Disney themed shoes as “Beauty” and “Beast”. I had also made custom-made gowns and slippers with our initials and names on them.
Décor : The tables had been set up beautifully with crisp clean white table clothes, crystal under plates, red flower arrangements on gold stands with the center pieces, surrounded by white candles and red rose petals. I had also made table number that looked like books, with different quotes from the movie wrapped around the books. As guest favours I had given each guest a clear candy pot that had “Tale as Old as Time” etched onto the glass. Around the neck of each lid I had labels made which read “Be Our Guest” and each guests name, this served as place cards. Guests were reminded to fill their jars with candy before leaving the event. The stage had been decorated with chandeliers and a flower wall made of red roses. The main table looked regal as it had been a golden table with golden thrones and red roses statistically placed along the table top.
The evening began with my husband and I making our grand entrance. We then served plated starters followed by speeches by my brother and my husband’s cousin respectively. What came next, totally blew me away. My husband’s speech was the best speech I had ever heard, it was presented with poise and perfection. This was the type of speech which made wives and girlfriends fight with their husbands… (LOL). After the buffet style main was served, our first dance was introduced which was from the movie, Beauty and the Beast “Tale as Old as Time” followed by the cutting of our castle themed cake which was accompanied by the characters Lumiere and Cogsworth from the movie Beauty and the Beast. From that point onwards I only remember having the time of my life. We danced the night away and had to eventually chase our guests away. Just when I thought it was all over, my amazing brother-in-laws, cousins and best friends accompanied my husband and I to our honeymoon suite and he carried me over the threshold and continued the party till 4am.
When people congratulate me or ask how I had experienced the wedding, I reply, “I wish I could get married again, it was the best experience of my life and I have no regrets. It was an epic party”
If I could give any future bride advice I would advise them on staying true to who they are, do not compromise. You have to adapt a carefree mentality no matter how stressed out you may be, just remember that it’s a once in a lifetime experience. Don’t ruin the day by stressing yourself out. If you are well planned and organized, someone will sort it out. You are not the décor company, the caterer or florist. You are the bride. Also, don’t forget to have fun. My husband and I had been thrown amazing bachelor and bachelorette parties and we had planned a bachelor and bachelorette weekend away with our closest friends and family. We had “Groom Squad” and “Bride Squad” t-shirts made. From sending out our save the dates, to our wedding invitations, the décor, food, wedding attire, shoes, programmes, and themes I stayed true to who I am and because that was my inspiration I have absolutely no regrets!
